The spirotetramat patent is owned by Bayer CropScience AG. It was launched in 2007 and officially introduced in the US in 2008.
Spirotetramat is a tetramic acid derivative that belongs to the keto-enol group and is one of the modern insecticides with bidirectional systemic circulation. The active ingredient can move up and down throughout the entire body of the plant including roots and shoots, through the xylem and phloem present in the plant. The one-way transport mechanism is usually through the xylem and is then connected to the growing parts of the plant. However, the transport of phloem from leaves to roots can henceforth be connected at any stage of plant development.
