New Pesticide List In Vietnam Starting From January 30th, 2025

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has just signed and issued Circular No. 25/2024/TT-BNNPTNT dated December 16, 2024 on the Pesticide List (PPDs) permitted for use in Vietnam and the Pesticide List prohibited for use in Vietnam. This Circular replaces Circular No. 09/2023/TT-BNNPTNT and will take effect from January 30, 2025.

In which, the Pesticide List permitted for use in Vietnam, Appendix I issued with this Circular, includes 1,918 active ingredients and 4,844 trade names.

Compared to the same category in 2023, the 2024 category has 98 more active ingredients and 309 trade names, including:

- Insecticides account for the largest number with 753 active ingredients and 1,834 trade names (an increase of 42 active ingredients and 109 trade names compared to the previous year).

- Next is fungicides with 725 active ingredients and 1,676 trade names (an increase of 42 active ingredients and 115 trade names).

- Herbicides have 273 active ingredients and 853 trade names (an increase of 13 active ingredients and 62 trade names).

- The rest are forest product preservatives, post-harvest agricultural product preservatives, termite insecticides, seed treatment chemicals, growth regulators, snail insecticides, etc.

The list still retains the number of active pesticide ingredients banned from use in Vietnamas in Circular 09/2023/TT-BNNPTNT in Appendix II, including 2.4.5 T, Captan, Captafol, Methamidophos, Aldrin, Carbofuran, Chlordane, Methyl Parathion, Parathion Ethyl, BHC, Lindane, etc. In the coming time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to review and eliminate plant protection drugs with high risk of negative impacts on human health, livestock and ecosystems.
