The New List of Pesticides in 2023

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development has just signed Circular No. 09-2023 on the list of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam and the list of pesticides banned for use in Vietnam. This circular replaces circular No. 19-2022 and is valid from 8-12-2023.

The List of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam and the List of pesticides banned for use in Vietnam are promulgated based on the plan to develop legal documents of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2023, the Provisions of the Law on Promulgation of Legal Documents, the Law on Plant Protection and Quarantine and at the request of organizations, individuals officially registering and supplementing pesticides.

The list of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam in 2023 includes 1,820 active ingredients with 4,537 trade names.

In which, the group of insecticides accounted for the most with 712 active ingredients and 1,725 trade names. The second is fungicides with 683 active ingredients and 1,561 trade names, and the third is herbicides with 260 active ingredients and 791 trade names...

The number of biological pesticides registered on the List is 26, accounting for 10.79% of the total number registered on the List. Moreover, organizations and individuals registering pesticides have voluntarily withdrawn 15 types of pesticides from the List of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam.

On October 27th, 2023, informing Tuoi Tre Online about the new point of Circular 10-09, the Plant Protection Department said that the list of pesticides allowed for use in Vietnam in 2023 is added 12 active ingredients, of which 6 types are biological, and the remaining are new active ingredients that are safe and effective.

"The list of plant protection drugs allowed for use in Vietnam in 2023 adds a number of pesticides to control harmful organisms on some crops with high export value such as grapefruit, durian, dragon fruit...

In addition, this list also adds many effective, advanced pesticide types such as OD, EW, WG ..., especially pesticides registered for use on vegetables, fruits and tea which have a short isolation period and low toxicity," said the Plant Protection Department.

Besides, Circular 09-2023 retains 31 active ingredients of pesticides banned for use in Vietnam, including 2.4.5 T, Captan, Captafol, Methamidophos, Aldrin, Carbofuran, Chlordane, Methyl Parathion, Parathion Ethyl, BHC, Lindane...

In the coming time, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to review and remove pesticides with high risks to human health, livestock, ecosystems, and the environment from the List of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam.
